What is welding used for?
Welding is a common process used in automotive repair. It is a fabrication process in which two or more parts are fused together via heat, pressure, or both. Once everything settles and cools, it is fully joined together. The parts that are welded together are called the parent materials. During the welding process, the material used to help join the parent materials together is called filler or consumable. They can be made of metal, plastics, and sometimes wood.
This form of bodywork is popular to quickly and effectively repair any damages to your vehicle. Whether parts of your vehicle is rusted, cracked, or bent, welding is an easy way to repair any damages. The high heat and pressure from welding make it easy for our Expert technicians to precisely target the damaged area. Our technicians are well trained and have many years of experience with welding, ensuring that your vehicle will be properly serviced.
There are three types of welding used by our Quality technicians. They include:
- Arc welding: Arc welding is a process where an electrical arc is used to melt the metal and fuse them together. Once it cools down, it is fully fused together. This process is also good for metal that is rusty too.
- MIG welding: MIG (metal inert gas) welding adds a metal filler that flows onto the melted work material. MIG welding is the most common type of welding that is practiced. This type of welding uses a filler material and a gas shield. The filler is released at the tip of the “gun” where our technicians carefully control the placement of the filler.
- TIG welding: TIG (tungsten inert gas) uses a tungsten rod at the end of a torch and also a gas shield. The tungsten is used for creating the electrode for the welding arc. It then uses a filler material and heats it up to weld pieces together.
